Taking care of oral hygiene every day spares a lot of trouble. Unhealthy smiles are caused by caries, otherwise known as the disease of hard dental tissue. It is mainly caused by dental plaque that forms after every meal. Plaque consists of food leftovers and bacteria that convert the sugars found in the food into acids that dilute the enamel depriving it of calcium and phosphorus; leading to enamel damage.
Basic treatment of caries consists of removing the decayed part of the tooth and substituting the missing part with a filling. Usually the fillings are made out of light-curable materials.
